GOALS SUCCESSIONS AND DISPLACEMENT

GOALS SUCCESSIONS AND DISPLACEMENT

Every organization has goal ,changes occurs almost inevitably in the goals that organizations seek, when such changes are conscious attempts by management the process is termed as goals successions, when a shift is not intended by management,it refers to goals displacements.

GOAL SUCCESSION
Goal succession means adoption of new goals ,when an original goal is modified internally by the management ,it is known as goal successions ,organizations incorporate new or modified goals as soon as the existing goals are either achieved or discarded ,goals succession can be made clear by this ex. for ex. foundations for infantile paralysis was established whose primary goals was to secure funding for research to eliminate one specific childhood disease infantile paralysis ,the foundations contributed to the virtual eradication of the diseases ,it attained its primary goals, but the results was a major crisis in the organizations ,cause its efforts had eliminated its major purpose for existences ,after considerable thought the foundations shortened its name and revised its goals as funding research for childhood diseases, this is an explicit ex. of intentional goals successions.

when an organization is faced with the problem, like acute competition, declining sales ,shortage of funds ,etc. may necessitate to find new goals for survival ,similarly organizations may modify its existing goals in orders to enhance the existing goals ,for ex. organization had stated labor welfare as its goals for extending housing ,medical and education facilities to its employees with the passage to time ,it was realized that this goals has been achieved and therefore a new goal has been constituted as 'workers participation in management ' such a change is goals successions ,goals successions may happens in three specific conditions.'

*ACHIEVEMENT OF GOALS:
If the existing goals have been achieved and the organization is left with no alternative it must adopt new goals for its continuous existence.

*CHANGE IN THE ENVIRONMENT:
In the context of changes environment or internal circumstances ,it is not desirable to pursue the existing goals ,then organizations will have to evolve new goals.
*UNACHIEVABLE GOALS:
If the existing organizational goals are such that they cannot be achieved ,the organization has to modify or alter the goals.
the successions of goals is del8iberate,intentional and warranted by the circumstances ,this phenomenon is quite common with most of the famous organizations having worldwide network.
